Why so serious?
ABOUT THIS BLOG

IN A NUTSHELL

These are the ramblings of self-proclaimed geek, (Kato). His musings range from the mundane to the sublime. It is a potpourri of witty (in his mind) observations, blogging tips, click-worthy Internet finds, humor pieces, and the occasional serious reflection.

SCHEDULE

Ideally there would be new posts at least five days a week. In reality, posting frequency varies from every day to every couple of days.

THE AUTHORS

WITFITS consists primarily of the ramblings of founder and leader author, Kato (bio). His efforts are occasionally augmented by Miss Scarlet (bio), his sister and blogging apprentice. From time to time his "alter, alter ego", Dr. Katonian (bio), Evil Genius and Criminal Mastermind, drops by, usually to bemoan the failure of his latest dastardly scheme.

CONTACT

Feel free to contact Kato at witfits@gmail.com about anything and everything. He reads it all and, assuming he likes you, will reply back in the most helpful manner possible.

COMMENTING POLICY

Feel free to comment on any and all stories. It is always nice to hear what readers think and comments help encourage Kato on those nights when he just can't think of what to blog about. He replies to all comments where relevant.

COLOPHON

(not a prehistoric fish)

A variety of software is used in creating and maintaining this blog. The service is provided by Blogger, which is completely free and moderately flexible--perfect for the budding blogger who wants to write but doesn't want to hassle with all the technical behind-the-scenes stuff to make it work. The images used in posts and in the template are hosted by Photobucket, also free (Blogger also provides this capability). Kato surfs and posts using Firefox, which is particularly useful now that it has (as of 2.0) a built-in spellcheck feature that highlights misspelled words as you type. Because Blogger's post-editor choses your post time as the time you opened up and started writing, not the time you actually posted, Kato uses a Firefox plugin called Greasmonkey along with a script that adds a "publish now" button to set the current time when the post is published. When editing the template outside of Blogger Kato uses a great free text/source code editor called ConTEXT. The images are edited with Adobe Photoshop.

There are a number of other sites and services used. The domain name is hosted by GoDaddy. Research for posts is carried out using Google (and its toolbar plugin) and Wikipedia (and the search plugin for Firefox). Video clips are often discovered through YouTube, pictures through Google Image Search. Interest in the site is tracked through many sources including Technorati, Tracksy, and Statcounter. When developing the template Kato often relied on a variety of pages on CSS, including W3Schools.

In developing the blog the majority of the template was written by Kato, as well as borrowing from or implementing various Blogger "hacks".
