This "window" is artificial and a result of how the left and right eye image are cropped (changing how they are cropped and how they will overlap each other in the final stereo image effects the position of the "window" or, in other words, whether objects in the scene appear in "front" of or "behind" the screen).

Whether or not objects "stick out" is somewhat an aesthetic choice. Purists may argue that the image isn't "correct" unless everything appears behind the screen. With some of my 3D images I have chosen to have objects sticking out in order to give it more of a "wow" effect. The only real reason to not do this is if you have an object that sticks out but crosses the edge of the picture. If this happens the 3D will look funny to your brain because you expect the object to continue on past the edge of the picture yet it just abruptly stops. If you adjust the image so that you push all the objects "behind" the stereo "window" then it looks like you're looking through a portal onto a scene and when objects extend to the edge of the picture they won't look unnatural because your brain assumes you can't see the rest of it because it is behind the "wall" around your "window".

Phew. Like I said, it's complicated :)Katohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15228307619229587737noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10824187.post-708971876155499282008-04-20T03:50:00.000-04:002008-04-20T03:50:00.000-04:00Thanks for posting this Kato. Thank you for showing me those other programs, it's going to make things alot easier. I do have a question if know.. You could do a 3D video, but you would have to be content with having a video in which the camera doesn't move/zoom. You could set up the camera someplace and record a video, then move it slightly left or right and record a second video, but you can't move the camera during the video or else you will ruin your 3D shot.Katohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15228307619229587737noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10824187.post-5690832044154288862008-03-02T18:18:00.000-05:002008-03-02T18:18:00.000-05:00thank you so much! this was very helpfull, i had a...thank you so much! this was very helpfull, i had a question though, is there a way to upload say, 2 videos, and do the stero image thing with the red and blue to the whole video, or would i have to just do it pic by pic,

also i made some halo 3 pics and even some real life ones! They are meant for iZ3D monitors, but they have an anaglyph (red/blue) mode option. You can create screen shots from that too. There is also an entire gallery there filled with stereoscopic game screen-shots in cross-eyed view that can be converted to anaglyph if you want.

Regards,
ChopperAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10824187.post-79164567582378887542007-12-10T18:19:00.000-05:002007-12-10T18:19:00.000-05:00Nick,Don't worry too much about getting exactly 2....Nick,

Don't worry too much about getting exactly 2.95% distance between the shots. That number was derived through some trial and error and some calculations. Feel free to try a smaller separation, or larger one, if it gives you better results.

The 2.95% separation is along the width (long dimension) of the display.

If you are having trouble moving the camera the width you want consistently, do what I did: create a guide. Get two lengths of string (or dental floss in my case) and cut them so they are a few inches longer than the height of your TV. Find something to tie to one end of each to weigh them down (screw, nail, bolt, whatever). Find something else sturdy to attach them too--a small block of wood is nice, but I made do with a bit of cardboard that I weighted down by taping on some coins. Attach the lengths of string to the block of wood (or whatever) such that they are the appropriate distance apart (2.95% of the width of your display, which is probably a couple of centimeters) and so that the "weights" are on the unattached ends. When you're done you should have a little guide you can put on top of your TV that will hang down two strings across the screen. Line up something in the picture with one of the strings and take one shot, then line that same bit up with the other string and take your second shot.Katohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15228307619229587737noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10824187.post-34109484759937225042007-12-09T22:29:00.000-05:002007-12-09T22:29:00.000-05:00I made a few 3D screenshots by following your guid...I made a few 3D screenshots by following your guide, but I am having trouble getting the camera movement distance correct. I guess I'll have to try to measure the 2.95% more accurately. Also, does the 2.95% actually refer to the "width" (technically the "height" is the shorter distance, while the base is the length) of the TV, or is it actually the "length"?Nicknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10824187.post-7362039016839737772007-12-09T14:00:00.000-05:002007-12-09T14:00:00.000-05:00Check out Bungie's "How To" on saved films.Check out Bungie's "How To" on saved films.Katohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15228307619229587737noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10824187.post-58758118995460230472007-12-08T23:34:00.000-05:002007-12-08T23:34:00.000-05:00hey, when i go to chose a film, i have none... how...hey, when i go to chose a film, i have none...

how do i got 1, and how do i make a film???

im a noob at this :(halo noobnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10824187.post-7441046814052486182007-12-01T13:14:00.000-05:002007-12-01T13:14:00.000-05:00Can I just give u the image I want 3-D'd and you e...Can I just give u the image I want 3-D'd and you e-mail it to me tinakhal@gmail.comtinanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10824187.post-87511162432267809712007-12-01T00:51:00.000-05:002007-12-01T00:51:00.000-05:00That's really strange, I don't know why you're get...That's really strange, I don't know why you're getting the results you are.Katohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15228307619229587737noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10824187.post-77097605880674121142007-11-29T18:48:00.000-05:002007-11-29T18:48:00.000-05:00Well I click "Open Left.Right images and open them...Well I click "Open Left.Right images and open them.tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13009346102328201186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10824187.post-16432361158382124042007-11-29T11:23:00.000-05:002007-11-29T11:23:00.000-05:00the jonez: Cool pics, though it looks like your l...the jonez: Cool pics, though it looks like your left and right eyes are swapped. Just take your film into the theater, cue the player up to the right part, move your camera somewhere appropriate, then hit play and record it (interpret that as you will--more than likely this involves video capture into a PC). When you're done, reset the film to the same start point and move your camera for the second eye and do it again. The only limitation is that you have to "stationary" clips this way (that is to say, your cameras can't move during the segment you're recording because it would be nigh on impossible to synchronize).Katohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15228307619229587737noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10824187.post-33727949783290683422007-11-06T19:10:00.000-05:002007-11-06T19:10:00.000-05:00how bout some rampant speculative ideas...what if ...how bout some rampant speculative ideas...

what if we have a scene in forge, where 2 players are the monitor and are spaced eye-width apart in a fixed position. both record a short video scene, like a nade stick. can frames be extracted from those 2 videos and used to make a 3d video clip?jerrynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10824187.post-86864776906744312842007-11-05T11:11:00.000-05:002007-11-05T11:11:00.000-05:00Unbelievable.
