Why it's
International Talk Like A Pirate Day again (yar)! It's a doubly (yar) important day for me (yar) being both a fan of pirates (yar) in general, as well as being a
Pastafarian (yar).
It also reminds me of the Halloween when I dressed up like a pirate. It wasn't much of a costume--mostly just a sash, eye patch, and possibly a bandanna, all of which were originally from a pirate wench costume. Yes, I was making a pirate costume out of a chick's pirate costume. What can I say, it was college and money was being spent on books and Taco Bell.
I worked in a computer lab on campus that year and sat there in front of a PC, on Halloween, dressed as a pirate. I even handed out candy to students coming and going. At one point, one of the faculty members came in to do some work. He seemed amused (I think) that I was in costume. Jokingly, I said to him "Yea, I'm a
software pirate." The older gentleman gave me a very puzzled look, dissecting what I had just said, interpreting it far too literally. "I don't understand," he said. "How are you conveying the idea of 'software'?"
Clearly my subtle wit was lost upon him.
