Remember when I used to blog here?

For the past few days, Blogger had my blog flagged as being a "Spam Blog". Apparently WITFITS looked suspicious to their crawler bot. Spam blogs usually work on the premise of linking to an inordinate number of other sites (or a single site numerous times) in order to game search engine results.

I assure you, WITFITS is not a spam blog.

Sure, my posts may ramble on from time to time, segueing from topic to topic like a caffeinated monkey with a keyboard swinging through the electric jungle (too much?). And sure, I may post nonsensical so-called witticism such as "My apartment smells funny" and "I learned a neat trick with soap in the bathtub" from whatever reeking literary bog such things breed in, but I'm not spamming. At least not in the most heinous sense. And if I am... well, I'm doing a very poor job at it.

Seriously, all Blogger had to do is ask anyone I've linked too if they've gotten "WITFITS" as a referrer. Their combined response of "WIT-who-now?" would have been evidence enough.

Probably something to do with the massive (and powerful) 9/11 post, or maybe the repeated links to YouTube. Or perhaps a lurking Blogger employee just decided he doesn't like you.

Ah, methinks I know what happened.

Remember all that editing you did to your templates for the tags etc? I think Blogger is counting your tags as links...and because it's not a standard feature...your blog stands out

Teachnically, every single one of your posts has a large number of links in it...for example, this one has 7, and that's a single post.

Of course, you know all this already, so just ignore this comment.

That stinks! So how do you find out if your blog as been so flagged, and what do you do to become unflagged?

I mean sure, I reported you as a viral marketer in the employ of Comedy Central, but not as a spammer.

PS: What's John Stewart like in person?

PPSS: Are they hiring?

exactly what a spam blog would want us to think! you can't fool me, Mr. Spam.

Wildweazel: I'm guessing that as well (the long 9/11 post).

Paulius: It could also be the tags, they are in fact links (even if they don't work right, arggg). I hadn't thought of that.

Etch: It's actually not too big of a deal when it happens. They just make you fill out a word verification every time you post in order to foil you if you are using an automated system. It's slightly annoying, but way better than, say, them shutting down the blog altogether. You then have to send a request for them to review your blog and mark it as not-spam. It took them a couple of days, but they did it.

Comedy Central could totally hire me.

Etch 2: I bet he's made of chocolate and smells like freshly baked cookies. I don't know if they are hiring, but being a writer for them (and/or on-air correspondant) would rock.

I'm going with the lurking Blogger employee theory. That diabolical little bastard.

and I too believe, you would rock at Comedy Central and/or some correspondant work.

However, Veronica does has a good point.
