Earworm, a loan translation of the German "Ohrwurm", is a term for a song stuck in one's head, particularly an annoying one. - WikipediaMy battle with earworms is
relatively well documented here. Recently, though, a buddy of mine came up with a way he says is guaranteed to get a song out of your head: Start singing "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath (or, in a pinch, "This Means War" by Busta Rhymes and Ozzy Osbourne).
Of course, the result is that you have "Iron Man" stuck in your head, but that's really not a bad thing.
Initial testing seems promising. After repeatedly humming the
Tetris theme, stuck in my head simply because someone said "Tetris", I decided to try it out. If nothing else, thinking about "Iron Man" in an attempt to dislodge the earworm seemed to have helped.
