I'm so into you, but I'm way too smart for you.

The person who lives below me has (an) annoying dog(s). They, like many members of their species, feel the need to bark whenever they hear the slightest noise at all. This can be quite annoying, especially when it happens, you know, all the time. But I'm secretly getting back at them.

The dog(s) seem(s) to be most perturbed when someone walks up or down the stairs outside the apartments, though the opening and closing of car doors and garages has been known to set them off as well. This means that whenever a neighbor leaves early for work (say, 6am), everyone in a three apartment radius is made well-aware of the fact as Barky the Wonder Dog (and possible companions) feels the need to inform us all for a good ten minutes.

Keeping this in mind, I have taken to making as much noise as possible when I come home. No swift pitter-patter up the stairs for me, I trudge my way up as if my shoes were lined with concrete. This, of course, whips my canine neighbors into a frenzy. I smile every time, knowing that no matter how annoying it is to hear it from my apartment, it must be at least twice as bad to be sitting right there with them every time.

Passive aggression rules.

It could be worse--you could have neighbors yelling in Spanish and slamming doors at 3 a.m. until you have to have them arrested. Just a few months after they left something cooking when no one was home and almost burned down the complex.

And don't forget about the underage hoodlums upstairs.

Did I mention I love my quiet house?

As for your problem, it doesn't hurt to let management know of the trouble with Fluffy. If you're lucky, maybe the owners haven't listed them on the lease and the management will be happy to collect on some sort of fine.

Or just slip the thing some NyQuil. (Works on kids too.)

Hehehehehe- I feel your pain, and good for you! You're getting in the spirit of the game now. Tit-for-tat I always say!!

You could always get a cat to annoy them....or just make meowing sounds down the heat vents to get them going- but wait until you KNOW the owners are asleep. Need more suggestions? I'll be glad to supply them.

I have the perfect way to get rid of problem neighbours.

Simply aquire a cardboard cutout of David Hasselhoff (The Knight Rider era), and place it outside their front window, close to the glass, staring in.

Anyone who opens their curtains in the morning, sees 'The Hoff' grinning in at them and isn't terminally freaked out, doesn't have a pulse

If it doesn't work the first time, simply put the cutout back at random times, and play the Knight Rider theme tune through the ventiltion system. (Although the 'Baywatch' theme CAN be used, this is considered cruel and unusual).

If 'The Hoff' refuses to work, you can also go for Twin cutouts of Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox (of CHiPs fame), although this approach has been banned by the Geneva Convention.

You could also leave some dog treats right outside of their door. If the dog's as poorly trained as I expect, it'll sniff and scratch at the door, and whine and bark incessently. If that doesn't piss off the nieghbors, I don't know what would.

You all are so deliciously evil. I can see why I keep you around.

Scarlet: You definitely win hands down when it comes to odd/annoying neighbors. I'm keeping the dog problem as an ace in case my neighbor feels the need to complain about something I do--a little insurance, if you will.

Sunny: OOh, meowing sounds, not a bad idea. I'll hit you up if that doesn't work :)

Paulius: Ha! I don't need to acquire one, I'll simply take one out of my Michael Knight shrine. The CHiPs idea also has merit, and since this is America I'm pretty sure the Geneva Convention doesn't apply.

OzzyC: OOh, that's also quite devious. And how funny would that be, huh?

W & W: I don't recommend leaving anything outside that guy's door.
