I bet you're thinking that I'm talking about Viamatic foXpose (install, Firefox 1.5 only), which allows you to view all of your open tabs as thumbnails in a browser window (and click on them to switch to that tab). Or perhaps Tab Preview (install, Firefox 1.5 only) which shows a preview of tab contents when you move your mouse over a background tab. Both of those are cool, no doubt, but not quite the best extensions EVAR (as the title of this post hints so subtly at).

Have you ever been sitting at your computer and thought to yourself, "Boy, Abe Vigoda sure is old. It's been thirty years since The Godfather II and Barney Miller. I wonder if he's still alive?" Well, wonder no more! Sure, you could check out the Abe Vigoda Status at AbeVigoda.com, but that requires bookmarking and clicking or possibly even typing. All of those methods are for chumps. That's why Vesterman.com has come up with the Abe Vigoda Status Firefox Extension (install). From the website:

When Firefox starts up, this extension automatically fetches Abe Vigoda's current status, and displays it in a small panel on the status bar. It periodically does so again every so often, so that you always have relatively recent information on Abe Vigoda's status.

Of course, sometimes, "relatively recent" is simply not good enough. There are times when you absolutely need to know Abe Vigoda's status in an up-to-the-minute fashion. In such cases, you can click on the extension's panel in the status bar, which will bring up a popup menu. One option on the popup menu is "Recheck Abe Vigoda's current status"; selecting this will cause the extension to immediately fetch Abe Vigoda's status.
