What is it about food that makes you crave it like you can't live without it.
Oh, yes, I see your point.
I've often experienced that sense of regret when you finish off something particularly tasty and wish you had more. Like that bowl of ice cream that really could have used one more scoop, or when you get up and go to the fridge expecting a cold, tasty Cherry Coke to be waiting there only to be reminded that you finished the last one off the night before. Such a bummer.
But just now I experienced the opposite, which doesn't happen to often. I have been sitting here surfing the web, writing e-mail, reading blogs, etc. I got up a little while ago and made myself a peanut butter (crunchy) and jelly (red raspberry) sandwich*.
What? I'm a bachelor, we're allowed to do that.
I was eating said sandwich* while multitasking, taking bites out of it every so often during page loads or between blogs. And yes, I am fully aware that PB&J is a dangerous thing to eat at a computer, but I've spilled way worse on any number of keyboards I've own in the past so very little scares me at this point. I had convinced myself that I was done eating, probably due to my preoccupation with something I was reading coupled with the fact that my plate is just outside my peripheral vision and thus it looks as if it is empty. But lo and behold, a beautiful thing happened! I turned just now and there it was, a full two, maybe
three bites of sandwich* still there on my plate. I was actually excited because it's quite enjoyable and I was a little disappointed when I thought I had finished it already.
Now I am savoring the last bites. I think I may nibble away at it so it takes longer to eat. There is something to be said for taking one's time.
And yes, I'm also aware that I could easily get up and make another. But as with many things, my laziness precludes me from doing so.
* Footnote: For whatever reason I have never been able to correctly spell the word "sandwich". Unless I really force myself (like I just did), I always spell it wrong. Sometimes it's "sandwhich", sometimes "sandwitch", and sometimes "dsmfeovj" when my fingers aren't on the home keys. I literally had to retype each instance of that word in this post because I spelled them wrong originally. I have a similar problem with "hurricane" which I spell "hurricaine", and the word "onomatopoeia" which, c'mon, is pretty fucking hard to spell.Tags: Food, Life
