A friend of mine showed me this a few weeks ago and I'm only now getting around to sharing it with y'all. Ben Folds has done a great cover of the Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg track
"Bitches Ain't Shit" from the landmark 1992 rap album, "
The Chronic". If you haven't heard it, I highly recommend it. There's something sublime about him gently crooning
"Bitches ain't shit but hoes and tricks / lick on these nuts and suck the dick" while his piano plays out the melody. So what are you waiting for,
here's a link to the Ben Folds cover. And for my fellow hip-hop heads, here's
the original.
Did I mention these songs contain explicit lyrics?
Also, for those that don't know, in the first verse (by Dr. Dre) the, <ahem>
bitch in question is Eric Wright, also known as, Eazy-E. Dr. Dre and Eazy-E were co-founders of the rap group N.W.A (along with Ice Cube and the lesser known M.C. Ren and DJ Yella). They are generally credited with being among the founding fathers of Gangsta Rap. The group split up after only a few years and resulted in a long period of bad blood among the members, with Dr. Dre and Eazy-E trading disses on their solo albums. The beef eventually ended when Eric "Eazy-E" Wright died of complications relating to AIDS in 1995. Dre supposedly visited his former partner in the hospital to bury the hatchet only to find he had already expired. He later paid tribute to him on the 1999 album, "Dr. Dre 2001", in the song
"What's the Difference" in which he raps,
"Eazy, I'm still with you. Fuck the beef, I miss you, and that's just being real with you."Not that any of you cared, but if I don't dump my vast warehouse of trivial knowledge now and then it tends to leak out of my ears and onto the carpet.
For something lighter and friendlier, why don't you check out
this strange little movie. It's a finger puppet (well, it's really just fingers with plastic eyes, I guess) scratching on a mini-Victrola. Decidedly odd.
