SW EP3: The l33t VersionSince the last post was all about Star Trek, I thought I'd pass along a few Star Wars links to you fine folks today.

Firstly, Robin sent me a link to something that's right up my alley: Star Wars Episode 3 - The l33t Version. It's a trailer for the upcoming Revenge of the Sith that has added subtitles so you can see how the movie translates into l33tspeak. Interestingly enough, it looks like the original author of this received a cease and desist e-mail and has since taken it down from his site. I would have thought it would fall under the protection of parody but what do I know?

Secondly, I came across an independent Star Wars film the other day called "Star Wars: Revelations". It is the work of 200 people over three years, and weighs in at around 40 minutes in length. The soundtrack is very well done and the CG is phenomenal considering, especially considering this is a independent effort. I was very impressed with the quality and cinematics of the rendered scenes, and although the scenes involving blue-screens were not perfect, they were certainly of higher quality than one would expect from an amateur effort. The sound editing was a little spotty, though. Some lines of dialog were fine, others seemed too soft or too loud, or had noticeable hissing or popping in the background. And since I'd rather not dis' a bunch of folks who spent a lot of time and effort on this project, I will leave it up to you to pass judgement on the story and the acting. If you don't have forty minutes free, you can always watch the trailer to get a feel for what it is all about.

Thirdly, I read today an interesting summary of George Lucas' appearance at the Star Wars Celebration III convention this past week. He revealed that not only are they planning on turning the Cartoon Network short series "Clone Wars" into a full 3D animated series, there are also plans in the works for a live-action Star Wars series. The series currently in development takes place between Episodes III and IV and Lucas is planning on writing all the stories for the first season at once. After the first season he plans to bow out and let others take over. Rumor also has it that they are looking at Kevin Smith to work on the television series. Noonch!

Fourthly, Kevin Smith apparently has seen Revenge of the Sith and posted a review on the View Askew website. I only read the first paragraph as the rest is supposedly rife with spoilers, but Smith told me all I wanted to hear in the first couple of lines:
"Revenge of the Sith" is, quite simply, fucking awesome. This is the "Star Wars" prequel the haters have been bitching for since "Menace" came out, and if they don't cop to that when they finally see it, they're lying. As dark as "Empire" was, this movie goes a thousand times darker....
Fifthly, did you know that Google has a Klingon homepage? Yea, I know this is Star Wars post but I forgot to mention it yesterday.

Ah...**sigh**
Star Wars...STAR WARS...the Sith review has me excited. Episode 2 SUCKED. I have to add that my identity as a nerdy weirdo is intimately connected to Star Wars. I remember being 7 years old in the theatre watching Star Wars...when it was the only one (now to be dubbed A New Hope). I think it set me on my path. **sigh**
I'm going to check out Revelations. It just can't be as good as the Thumb Wars

Sixthly, "Scruffy-looking Nerd-herder" is, I think, the best post title I've ever seen :)

Kato are you gonna admit to Robin that you didn't invent this title, or is she Star-Wars-Geeky enough to know?

That's a good question. I also wonder if "Scruffy-looking Nerd-herder" was a typo, a misread of the actual post title, or an intentional play on words. Either way, it makes me want to go back and retitle my post, because "Nerd-herder" is infinitely more clever.
