I received a postcard the other day. Check it out:

Postcard from Prudhoe Bay, AK

And here's the postmark:

Postcard postmark

It came from miss Litany Webb, a young woman who as I write this is making her way across the frozen plains of Alaska. If you haven't before, check out her blog: The Pilgrimage of Litany. A very good read. Thanks for the postcard, Lit! It's a very cool "souvenir". In five years, when you guys finish your voyage and are famous, I'll be selling it for mucho dinero and retiring.

The postcard reminds me of how amazing the Internet really is. Sure, a good 90% of the content is probably crap (or pr0n), but the fact that such a vast resource of knowledge is available at our fingertips (at least for many of us) is simply astounding. What's more, and why I bring it up now, is that the Internet has provided a mechanism by which we can meet and interact with individuals that we otherwise may have never had the chance to before.

When I first discovered IRC chat in the mid-late 90's, I met all sorts of interesting people. I had friends (or at least acquaintances) in a number of states, Canada, and as far away as Australia. Although I have pretty much lost touch with them all (it's hard enough staying in touch with people that live in my own county) I'm happy that I had the chance to meet and get to know them. Now, in the mid aughts, I am meeting fellow gamers from across the States and the world via Xbox Live, and most recently I have been fortunately to encounter some unique and interesting individuals through the world of blogging.

What a great time to be alive.

For those of you wondering, the distance between Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, and North Royalton, Ohio, is 3032 miles (4880 km), as the crow flies. The snail mail was postmarked on the 1st and arrived on the 5th.

Prude Hoe? Isn't that an oxymoron?

The internet is a glorious thing. If it weren't for it, I wouldn't have you! Er, wait, was I not supposed to tell you that?

I see that Miss Scarlet is a Kato / WITFITS team member - How do you two know one another, if I may be so nosy? :o)

Scarlet: Touche. You're just getting me back for all the years of teasing you about picking you up at K-Mart, huh?

Robin: He and I would make a great team, what with him inventing the Internet, and me single-handedly keeping it in existence by visiting every last page. So...very...tired...

Litany: Oh, inquiring minds want to know, eh? Well, hopefully some day soon she will get around to writing her first post so she can introduce herself the legion (Roman word for "seven") of WITFITS fans. For now, you'll have to figure it out for yourself, but if you think her wit and sense of humor sounds a little familiar, it wouldn't hurt to wonder if it runs in the family.

And by "the family" he means the family. Insert Godfather theme here.

Some day, and that day may never come, Miss Scarlet will call upon you to do a service for her. But until that day, accept this Blog as a gift.
