In my ongoing attempt to expose my readership (5, maybe 6 people) to the wonderous virtues of this amazing InterWeb of ours, I have for you great people an interesting little link. The site, called
channel101, describes itself as:
A living, autonomous, untelevised TV network, powered not by promise of reward to the artist, but by the artist's desire to reward the audience. Translation: they show 5 minute episodes of "home brew" television shows. It's more than that, actually, but you can read it for yourself on their information page (something about the shows being submitted and reviewed by a live audience, blah blah, I kinda dozed off in the middle there). The content is decidedly strange but there are a few gems here and there. One such proverbial gem (which proverb was that again) is their popular series: "
The 'Bu." "The 'Bu" can be summed up by the site's description of the first episode:
Young, sexy people that live in Malibu call it The 'Bu, because when you say the entire word, it takes time, and then you wouldn't be young anymore. You may recognize the attractive gal in the picture accompanying this post as
Sarah Chalke of NBC's "
Scrubs," who appears occasionally in "The 'Bu."
So, my dear friends, check out this so called "untelevised television." I must get back to writing a pilot of my own. It's about an attractive computer programmer in his mid-to-late twenties who, as a result of a freak accident involving a computer (natch) and a spilled bottle of
Mountain Dew becomes: Cyber Man! Sucked into a virtual world of 1's and 0's, Cyber Man must continually fight off malicious virii, Internet worms, and a torrent of SPAM, while battling cyber-terrorists, cyber-thieves, cyber-predators, and a whole bunch of other things prefixed with the word "cyber." Meanwhile our reluctant hero pursues his ongoing quest to find a way back into the real world and hopefully reunite with his long-time crush, that girl from accounting who sometimes smiles uncomfortably when he passes her in the hall at work. Plus the new Splinter Cell is supposed to be coming out, and that should be pretty cool, he was hoping to get some time in on that. Also there's like a half-eaten pizza in the fridge, and he really doesn't want it to go to waste.
